Karen Walker – Co-Founder / Specialist Occupational Therapist

Karen is a registered specialist occupational therapist (OT). She has worked with adults, young people, children and babies for many years. Along with her private work, she continues to work within the NHS as a Specialist Occupational Therapist.  Since establishing this service, Karen has worked extensively within primary schools and the community, teaching therapy led yoga and mindfulness to children of varying ages. She also works with adults, teaching coping strategies to improve their overall health and wellbeing, including Mindfulness and Adapted Tai Chi.

Karen has extensive experience assessing and treating people in various environments including clients’ homes, schools, hospitals, GP surgeries, nurseries, hospices, Work environments, working within areas including Paediatrics and Physical Health Psychology.

Karen has extensive knowledge of occupational therapy, and is constantly striving to increase her knowledge and skills to ensure up to date evidence and interventions are used with her clients. She has completed various post graduate courses including: First Aider Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), sleep hygiene, stress management, Persistent Pain, Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and overlapping conditions (Including ADHD and Autism), Understanding and treating Dyspraxia, Sensory Integration (first module), Reading plans for major housing adaptations, Adapted Tai Chi for adults, Yoga for children and teenagers, Mindfulness.

Karen is passionate about the benefits of learning and has worked closely with the local University of Cumbria, delivering lectures to students and assessing students within their final year of studying. Karen has promoted OT over the years through various presentations and teaching sessions to professional groups including GPs paediatricians, teachers and work employers, promoting the value of occupying ourselves through self-care, education, work and hobbies.

Karen is registered with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC), Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) and the British Association of Occupational Therapists (BAOT) and is DBS checked. When she is not working and studying, Karen enjoys spending time with her family and friends and continuing her study and practice in Yoga.

Claire Allen – Co-Founder/ Specialist Physiotherapist

Claire is a registered Chartered Physiotherapist. She has worked with Children and Young People for many years. She continues to work within the NHS as a Senior Specialist Physiotherapist. She has experience working in Adult Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (both in the NHS and Private Sector), Paediatrics and is a fully qualified Disability Analyst. Within her functional assessor role, she gained extensive experience of physical and mental health assessments for adults and young people. Claire has also very recently received her accreditation as a Holistic Health & Nutrition Coach.

Claire has many years’ experience working with Children and Young People with SEN (Special Educational Needs) and working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team of OTs, Speech & Language Therapists, Paediatrician and Educational Psychologists.  She coordinated Physiotherapy for a large, special needs school locally for several years.

Claire gained her Yoga, Clinical Pilates and Mindfulness teaching qualifications in 2018. Since establishing this service, she has worked extensively within schools and community teaching Therapy Led Yoga & Mindfulness to Children of varying ages. During her time at University, she also completed her level 1 & 2 swimming teacher and pool lifeguard qualifications.

Claire has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of child development and the diseases, conditions and injuries specific to childhood. She is passionate about Children’s Physiotherapy and is always looking for further ways to improve her knowledge and skills. She has completed many post graduate courses within her NHS and Private capacity. Some of these include: Paediatric Musculoskeletal Assessment & Treatment, Gait Analysis, Understanding Paediatric Spasticity, Hypermobility, Posture and Movement Disorders in Children, Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and overlapping conditions (Including ADHD and Autism), Childhood Trauma & ACEs, Cerebral Palsy Integrated Pathway Training, Specialist Neonatal Physiotherapy training at Leeds Teaching Hospital and Paediatric Therapeutic taping. Claire has specialist interests in Paediatric Musculoskeletal & Rheumatology Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy. She specialises in the Physical, Social and Emotional Development of Children and Young people.

Claire is registered with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC), Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), and Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists (APCP) and is DBS checked. When she is not working and studying, Claire enjoys spending time with her teenage daughters and catching up with friends.
